SOUTH

ADEJE is an agricultural town, dedicated to banana and tomato harvests. Visit Barranco del Infierno gorge, the steep walls are decorated by amazing vegetation which lets little sunlight in. Several burial caves used by the early inhabitants, the Guanches, have been found. Adeje’s parish church displays a fine wooden Mudejar style ceiling and a goblins’ collection.

EL MEDANO is a wind surfing paradise, with fine golden sand, has a quiet beauty and is one of the best places on earth to wind surf. The town is mostly residential. Visitors will find tourist facilities on offer such as boats to hire.

GRANADILLA is a picturesque town of winding roads. Local agriculture produces potatoes, legumes, cereals and grapes — and therefore wine. Visit the Monte del Agua (Water Height) with its amazing landscape.

LOS ABRIGOS A fishing village with a small harbour is a popular destination for Spanish tourists. This is the place to go for lovers of seafood with a huge choice on offer from the many restaurants. Within walking distance of Golf del Sur.

LOS CRISTIANOS Is a busy port. It has large traffic-free areas, tourist shops and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Whale viewing excursions leave from here and a ferry port links the islands.

PLAYA DE LAS AMERICAS is the main tourist area of Tenerife and is very busy and cosmopolitan. Restaurants, bars, discos, casino, beaches, waterparks, fun and games.

VILAFLOR is the highest provence in Spain at 1,400m. It is set amid pine and almond trees. The cheeses and wines of the area are famous.

WEST

LOS GIGANTES gets its name from the giant cliffs that tower over the town. It boasts a picturesque marina, bars and restaurants and also a tennis and sports centre. Whale and dolphin viewing excursions leave from here.

MASCA is one of Tenerifes prettiest villages set on narrow ridges that plunge down into a verdant valley. You can drive or hike down the steep gorge with dramatic rock formations to the Atlantic Ocean.

PLAYA DE ALCALA Spanish town with a dock, where fishermen repair their boats and nets.

TEIDE VOLCANO and the National Park. Mount Teide is the highest peak in Spain standing at 12,200 feet. Formed around a million years ago. Incredible views and landscapes. A cable car takes you to 500 feet below the peak. At 12,000 feet the air is very thin so it cannot be used by people with heart, lung and related medical conditions. You need a permit to climb right to the summit. They are free but are obtainable only in person from Office P. N. de Teide in the capital, Santa Cruz.

NORTH

ANAGA MOUNTAINS are an excellent region for walking and touring by car with several viewpoints [mirador] guaranteeing a memorable trip providing the weather is fine.

PUERTO DE LA CRUZ is the largest resort in the north of the island and is home to Loro Parque wildlife park and zoo plus the impressive Botanical Gardens and the famous Lido with its enormous fountains.

LA OROTAVA is a beautifully preserved old town of steep cobbled streets filled with colonial architecture.

LA LAGUNA, the former capital of the island, is home to many fine 16th and 17th century mansions and its authentic Spanish atmosphere is untouched by tourism.

ICOD is famous for its 1000 year old dragon tree.

IN ADDITION

Look out for boat trips to see whales and dolphins, safaris on jeeps, day excursions and sightseeing tours of the island, waterskiing, paragliding, windsurfing lessons, scuba diving, snorkelling etceteras. There are many theme parks, wildlife parks, gardens, museums, markets and churches — check the tourist information centres and the information in the apartment.
